A CD for Children: The Princess and the Pea and The Beetle
A musical setting of Hans Christian Andersen’s popular fairy tales The Princess and the Pea and The Beetle, by Andreas N. Tarkmann, has been recorded by the Württembergisches Kammerorchester Heilbronn under the baton of its artistic director Ruben Gazarian, together with the children’s choir of the Stuttgart opera and narrator Juri Tetzlaff. This new CD release by the Coviello Classics label is available for sale immediately.
The two fairy tales are connected by an essential idea: the quest for happiness. The beetle is striving for recognition and approval; the prince is seeking the princess of his dreams. Both embark on a journey and have to pass difficult trials.
For the Württembergisches Kammerorchester Heilbronn and its artistic director Ruben Gazarian, this is already the second encounter with composer Andreas N. Tarkmann for the purpose of a CD recording. In 2012, the successful recording OPERA! (for the Berlin Classics label) was produced with clarinetist Sharon Kan, for whom and for whose instrument Tarkmann arranged operatic arias.
